Always pay for your goods and services you get from other inmates with cash, food or other services. Just not sexual services obviously. Always have a way to pay for the goods or services you use. Getting into debt can get you beat up, harassed and attacked often.

How to survive federal prison #2 - Keep your mouth shut. Don't spread gossip, talk bad about, or spread rumors about your fellow inmates, guards or your cell mate. Never talk or brag about your crime, keep that in between you and your attorney only. Otherwise never say bad about anyone and be respectful. Respect goes a long way when you are locked up.

How to survive federal prison #3 - Be respectful to your cell mate. Keep your living areas clean and don't do things to intentionally piss him off. Things like passing gas or defecating in the cell toilet when your cell mate is in the room is rude. Flushing the toilet twice is a respectful way to clean the area, but be polite. He can attack you at night time when the guards aren't in the range. So always remember that.

How to survive federal prison #4 - When you first enter the prison system stick to yourself. Don't become friends with people that just offer to be your friend right off the get go. Also make sure you don't associate with any informants, rapists or worse, child moulesters. Another thing I recommend is that you avoid gangs and gang life. It looks cool and tough in movies but it is a very real and deadly game.

How to survive in jail #5 - Always be respectful of other inmates and don't joke, play or "kid" around with them. Never make comments about their family, their mothers or their girlfriends. If they bullshit with you be very sensitive in the things you are saying. Alot of the people locked up behind bars have had very hard poverty stricken lives with drug addiction. So don't get caught saying something offensive you think is a joke, that can end up getting you beaten by the offended inmate and two of his buddies.
